Milliken's railroad roots
Milliken started as a trading post called Hillsboro in the 1860s. It was named for Judge John D. Milliken, a railroad lawyer, and incorporated on October 1, 1910, after annexing Hillsboro. Fires in the 1910s destroyed much of the early town, and the Denver, Laramie and Northwestern Railroad was abandoned in 1917.
The town still celebrates. Its centennial in 2010 brought a Union Pacific steam locomotive to town, and Beef 'n Bean Day marked its own 100th year in 2024.
